The John W Sellars Chapter of TOS would normally meet on Saturday, 18 February 2017, the 3rd Saturday of the month, but the TOS winter gathering is that weekend, 17-19 February at Paris Landing State Park. Consequently, our normal meeting at Cedars of Lebanon will not occur. Members of the Lebanon Birding Club are encouraged to attend the TOS gathering, and make a weekend of it.
However, if you cannot commit to a whole weekend of birding, Stephen Zipperer will be leading a field trip around Paris Landing and Kentucky Lake beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, 18 February 2017 and all of our members are invited. Meet in front of the Paris Landing State Park Lodge by 8:00 a.m.
This is an all day event so bring lunch, drinks and any snacks you may want. It takes at least 2.5 hours to get to Paris Landing State Park from Lebanon, so we will be organizing a carpool or caravan to get there by 8 AM.
What will we see?
Waterfowl! Lots of waterfowl! Ducks and geese galore: Snow Goose, Ross’s Goose, Cackling Goose, Greater White-fronted Goose are all possible. Black Duck, American Wigeon, Gadwall, Canvasback, Redhead, Northern Pintail, Green-winged Teal, Lesser and Greater Scaup, Bufflehead, Goldeneye, and various Merganser are certain. Also, we will see lots of gulls. Bonaparte’s, Lesser Black Backed, Herring, and Ring-billed gulls are a given, And… AND, in addition to Bald Eagles, we could see a Golden Eagle!
If you plan to join us for the trip, please drop us a note at lebanonbirding@gmail.com or complete the form below. Knowing how many to expect will allow Stephen to plan the trip. Simply email us your name, how many birders you expect in your party, whether you are willing to drive or prefer to ride, and if possible include a cell phone number so that we can communicate during the trip if necessary or in the event of inclement weather.
