February is a busy month for the John W Sellars Chapter of TOS. We invite members and guests alike to join us on any or all of our field trips and meetings.
Friday, 17 February – Sunday, 19 February 2017 – TOS Winter Outing
The Tennessee Ornithological Society is holding its winter outing at Paris Landing State Park. Birding field trips are planned for all three days in and around the park and hotspots near the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge. This is Presidents’ Day weekend and also coincides with the Great Backyard Bird Count. If you have not yet made plans for this fun filled weekend of birding, it’s not too late.
If for some reason you cannot commit to the whole weekend, you are still in luck. Please see the next event listed below.
Saturday, 18 February 2017 – Field Trip to Kentucky Lake & Paris Landing
Our group would normally meet on Saturday, 18 February 2017, the 3rd Saturday of the month, but the TOS Winter Outing is that weekend, 17-19 February at Paris Landing State Park. Consequently, our normal meeting at Cedars of Lebanon will not occur. Members of the Lebanon Birding Club are encouraged to attend the TOS Outing, and make a weekend of it.
However, if you cannot commit to a whole weekend of birding, Stephen Zipperer will lead a field trip around Paris Landing and Kentucky Lake beginning at 8:00 AM on Saturday, 18 February 2017 and all of our members are invited. Meet in front of the Paris Landing State Park Lodge by 8:00 AM. For more information on this trip, click here: Kentucky Lake / Paris Landing Field Trip

Saturday, 11 February 2017 – Field Trip to Sumner County Hotspots
The plan is to meet at Laguardo Recreation Area at 8:00 AM and carpool or caravan to Lock 4, move on to Hendersonville from there then work our way east eventually ending up at Bledsoe Creek State Park. Stephen Zipperer has a birdy route mapped out that includes Drakes Creek, Station Camp Creek, and again Bledsoe Creek among others. We’ll start at 8:00 AM, break for lunch in Gallatin, and wrap up around 2:00 PM or so. It’s gonna be fun! And you are all invited.
