In lieu of an April meeting, the John W Sellars Chapter of The Tennessee Ornithological Society will venture to Edgar Evins State Park in Dekalb County on Saturday, 22 April 2017 in search of the elusive Cerulean Warbler and other spring migrants. In addition, we will be joined on this field trip by members of the Nashville Chapter of TOS.
Park Ranger Mark Taylor has generously agreed to lead us on our search for warblers, and states there are good birding opportunities along the roads, down by the lake, and on numerous hiking trails throughout the park. Ranger Taylor suggests the best birding is usually in early morning, so we will gather at the park office no later than 8:00 a.m.

There are numerous hiking trails throughout the park ranging in difficulty from easy to moderately strenuous. Likewise, 5 miles of tree-lined paved roads twist and turn through the wooded park offering many excellent birding opportunities. Of course the weather during April can likewise range from “easy to moderately strenuous” so dress accordingly. As always, bring water and snacks.
The park office is located at: 1630 Edgar Evins State Park Rd, Silver Point, TN 38582.
