Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge – Saturday, 16 January 20165

SANDHILL-CRANEThe John W Sellars – Lebanon Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society will be birding the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge [ Wheeler NWR website ] near Decatur Alabama on Saturday, 16 January 2016. This field trip will take the place of our regularly scheduled meeting. Those who wish to attend should meet at the Wheeler NWR Visitor Center at 9:00 AM Saturday morning. Plans are to bird the refuge all morning, then have lunch at a nearby restaurant, then more birding in the afternoon. Expect to see Sandhill cranes, whooping cranes, lots of ducks and geese, and many other birds. Be sure to bring your binoculars, water to drink, and dress appropriately.

In the event of continued flooding, or closure of the refuge at Wheeeler, our field trip will be diverted to Woods Reservoir. The situation at Wheeler NWR should be more evident  as our field trip date approaches. Check this website for any changes to our plans.
