From December 14 through January 5 each year, tens of thousands of volunteers throughout the Americas take part in an adventure that has become a family tradition among generations. Families and students, birders and scientists, armed with binoculars, bird guides and checklists go out on an annual mission – often before dawn. For over one hundred and thirteen years, the desire to both make a difference and to experience the beauty of nature has driven dedicated people to go out and count birds on the annual Christmas Bird Count.
The John W Sellars – Lebanon Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society will conduct the Christmas Bird Count in Wilson County on Saturday, 2 January 2016. For more information or to participate in the Christmas Bird Count here in Wilson County, contact Stephen Zipperer at Stczipperer@gmail.com.

The next meeting of the John W. Sellars Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society will be Saturday, 21 November 2015. Melissa & Roy Turrentine have graciously invited us to have lunch with them at their home. Afterward, we will head over to nearby Bedford Lake for some birding.
If interested in joining the group for the birding at Bedford Lake, look for the group of cars along the roadside by ~2:15 PM. We generally scope the lake for wintering waterfowl and perhaps catch a few small birds flitting & gleaning in the trees nearby as well. We then head toward the dock to scope the area. If time permits, we will be viewing Normandy Lake as well. If interested in the casual atmosphere at the Turrentine home, please contact Melissa or Roy for further details. —
