Field Trip w/ NTOS to Robertson County – Saturday, 2 February 2019

On Saturday, 2 February 2019 the Lebanon (John W Sellars) Chapter TOS will join the Nashville Chapter on a field trip to Robertson County. Our trip leader will be Tony Lance who will meet us at 7:30 AM at the Dunkin’ Donuts at Exit 24 (Pleasant View/Springfield) on I-24.

We will be birding on thousands of acres of farmland along large open fields where the wind is biting in cold weather so dress appropriately. Species we hope to see include Horned Larks, Eastern Meadowlarks, American Pipits, Lapland Longspurs, White-crowned Sparrows, Savannah Sparrows, Northern Harriers, and Loggerhead Shrikes. And of course lots, lots more. Bring binoculars and a scope if you have one.

The outing should finish shortly after midday, so be sure to bring a lunch and water.

From December 14 through January 5 each year, tens of thousands of volunteers throughout the Americas take part in an adventure that has become a family tradition among generations. Families and students, birders and scientists, armed with binoculars, bird guides and checklists go out on an annual mission – often before dawn. For over one hundred and thirteen years, the desire to both make a difference and to experience the beauty of nature has driven dedicated people to go out and count birds on the annual Christmas Bird Count.
