Turn LEFT onto New Salem Rd.  Stay on New Salem Rd. for approximately 14.2 miles to North Lane. North Lane Tee’s into New Salem Rd, HWY99 on the Right. Turn RIGHT onto North Lane. Go about 1 mile and Swamp Rd will be on your left. Turn LEFT onto Swamp Rd and go about .8 to .9 miles to the stop sign.  Little Rock Rd will be on your Right. This is the area where we will meet up. Look for others gathered around my White 4 door Ford truck. You can also get to Eagleville by going I-840.

TIME: 3:30PM until Dark

The owls, if they are there, will not fly until after the sun sets so be prepared for cooler temperatures after the sun goes down. We will park along a narrow road with not much shoulder. There is usually not a lot of traffic in the area. There should be plenty of Sandhill Cranes and Northern Harriers. If we cancel because of rain we will schedule a Saturday afternoon in January. The birds will be here most of the Winter.

If you have any questions you can email me at stczipperer@gmail.com. If you get lost call me on my cell at (615) 692-2234. Hope to see everyone Saturday afternoon.

LBC Woods Reservoir Field Trip – Saturday, 21 November 2020

Nov. 21, 2020
Woods Reservoir,  Franklin Co.

14 birders met up for the John W. Sellars Chapter of TOS bird outing around Woods Reservoir and Coffee County. It was a beautiful day. At Woods Reservoir we had lots of Common Loons (seen and heard), Am. Coots, Pied-billed, and Horned Grebes, Ring-billed, Bonaparte, and a 1st year Lesser Black-backed Gull, Lesser Scaup, Mallard, Green-winged Teal, Gadwall, Hooded Merganser, Bufflehead ducks. Sandhill Cranes (seen and heard), Bald Eagles, Winter Wren (seen and heard), both species of  Kinglets, White-breasted, Red-breasted, and Brown-headed nuthatches were seen and heard. The Brown-headed Nuthatch was a lifer for 4 of the birders. The ponds in Coffee County were mostly void of ducks. The Hickerson Rd Sod Farm had more sod removed than I have ever seen. We had Gadwalls in the pond, Killeen and Eastern Meadowlark, and a N. Harrier, finally we had 35 Sandhill Cranes at Lake Lola on Fountain Grove Rd.

Thanks to all who join in the outing.

Good birding,
Stephen Zipperer
Trip Leader
