Field Trip to Crooked Branch Park – Saturday, 17 February 2018

Crooked Branch Park near Old Hickory Lake in Davidson County, Tennessee is the destination of the Lebanon Birding Club’s next field trip. Join us for some winter birding fun on Saturday, 17 February 2018.

Crooked Branch Park is located at 116D Ray Avenue, Lakewood, TN 37138. Click the image at left for the Google map of the park.

We will meet in the Nature Center parking lot at Cedars of Lebanon State Park at 7:00 AM then carpool or caravan to Crooked Branch Park to look for ducks, geese, sparrows and whatever else we can find. We’ll also stop at Snow Bunting Peninsula on Old Hickory Lake and scope the Old Hickory Dam area. There are plenty of places to grab lunch if the group wants to, then make a few stops in Sumner County before heading back.Please complete the sign up form by clicking the link below if you plan to join us on this field trip.

Field Trip to Wheeler NWR – Saturday, 27 January 2018

SANDHILL-CRANEThe Lebanon Birding Club – John W. Sellars Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society is heading to Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge [ Wheeler NWR website ] near Decatur, Alabama on Saturday, 27 January 2018, and you are invited. This field trip will take the place of our regularly scheduled meeting,  and as always, you do not have to be a member of our club to  participate  in our field trips. All are welcome.

We will meet at the Wheeler NWR Visitor Center parking lot at 9:00 AM on Saturday, 27 January 2018. Plans are to bird the refuge first,  hit a few other hotspots in the area, have lunch at a nearby restaurant, then more birding in the afternoon before coming home.

We would like to know how many plan to make the trip to 1) possibly coordinate a carpool or two, and 2) make arrangements for lunch. What Will We See?

Expect to see Sandhill cranes by the thousands, Whooping cranes, thousands of ducks and geese of all stripes and colors, and many other birds. Be sure to bring your binoculars, cameras, scopes, water to drink, and dress appropriately.
