Butterfly Garden Tour & Nightjar Hunt – Saturday, 21 June 2025

Trebek: Butterflies, bull bats and barred owls

JosEllen: What winged wildlife will be seen or heard by the members and guests of the Lebanon Birding Club on Saturday, 21 June 2025?

CORRECT!

First up, a tour of the Native Plant & Butterfly Garden at Cedars of Lebanon State Park curated by Tennessee Extension Master Gardener Linda Robertson.  Everyone is invited. To participate meet at the Dixon L. Merritt Nature Center by 6:30 p.m. The butterfly garden is in full bloom and absolutely gorgeous so don’t miss this opportunity!

Next, we venture off into the glade of southern Wilson County in search of nightjars and owls. To join us on the birding expedition, be at the Nature Center by 7:30 p.m.  We will make our way into the Cedars of Lebanon State Forest a few miles west of the park to our own little hotspot for owls and nightjars.

Expect to hear Great Horned Owl, Barred Owl, Eastern Screech Owl, Chuck-will’s Widow, Eastern Whippoorwill, and Common Nighthawk. If we’re lucky, we might catch sight of one or two of these birds.

Bring a comfortable lawn chair, water and a snack if you wish. Mosquito repellent might also come in handy. We will be out until 10:00 PM or so.

It’s going to be fun! We hope to see you on Saturday, 21 June 2025.
